Swimlane and Timeline Roadmaps

There are two main styles of roadmaps:

• Swimlane Style
• Timeline Style

The product roadmap presented here is in timeline style.

This style was not the original style of roadmaps when it was invented as a diagram type decades ago. That style was the swimlane style.

Most often though, a product roadmap is visualized as a timeline.

Sometimes the product roadmap consists of an upper and lower part.

• Upper part: new technologies to be used in new (versions of) products.
• Lower part: new features in new (versions of) products that are enabled by the new technologies.
