Dragon1 supports direct import of Microsoft Visio files (VDX and VSDX) and saving the shapes as entity objects in the Architecture Repository.
Upload your MS Visio File Directly
Dragon1 is the SaaS platform for Enterprise Architecture. On the platform, you create blueprints, landscapes, and roadmaps to support decision-making and guide innovation projects.
If you have used Visio for some time, you will have many files you would like to reuse.
You can directly upload or import these files. Create a trial account, log in, view the Visual Designer, and choose File > Import From > Device. Select your Visio file, and your Visio has been imported with one click.
If your Visio file has multiple visualizations, it will generate a TAB for every visualization, and you will have a data lossless import of your data.
Example Visio File
Here is an example Visio file you can use to check the Import and Upload feature for Visio: Visio File Example
This screenshot shows the Import and Upload of the example Visio file on Dragon1.
Saving Shapes As Entity Objects In The Repository
Dragon1 has a special feature. You can save the shapes from your imported/uploaded Visio as Entity Objects in the Repository.
For that you need to tag the shapes. You do that by selecting a shape by clicking on a shape in the visualization. Next, you press CTRL-M. In the properties dialog for the selected shape, you add property Entityclass; next, you add what entity class this object is. For instance, Process or Application. Dragon1 has a list of 300+ predefined entity classes from which you can choose.
Click on the orange Save button. Next, click on the Save Entities button. You now see that all the tagged shapes are saved as entity objects in the repository.
Export File to Visio (VSDX)
You cannot only import/upload Visio and save shapes as entity objects. You can also make a full round trip: you can export any visualization you create as Visio so that it can be opened and edited in Microsoft Visio, and next, you can import the edited File from Visio again.
You can do that by choosing File > Export > Visio (VSDX) in the Visual Designer.
